Overview:

NYU Langone Health operates a large network of healthcare facilities across New York City. As part of the Signage and Wayfinding team, I design and standardize visual communication systems that support patient navigation, accessibility, and operational clarity across these environments.

MY ROLE:

Assistant Project Manager/ Designer for Wayfinding & Signage

  • Design enterprise signage systems for ambulatory and inpatient facilities

01 CONSTRUCTION SIGNAGE

STANDArDIzATION

Construction projects across large healthcare systems often produce inconsistent temporary signage, creating visual clutter and unclear communication for patients, staff, and visitors. This project focused on developing a standardized construction signage guideline used to support projects across multiple NYU Langone Health facilities.

The guideline establishes a cohesive system for exterior and interior construction signage—including barricade graphics, project information panels, window graphics, and code-required safety signage—ensuring clear communication, brand consistency, and alignment with regulatory requirements throughout all phases of construction.

THE PROBLEM:

Before standardization, construction signage across NYU Langone facilities lacked
visual consistency and clear hierarchy, resulting in cluttered permit postings and inconsistent messaging across sites.

03 REHAB FLOOR GRAPHICS

STANDARdization

Rehabilitation departments require precise spatial markings to support clinical mobility testing and physical therapy exercises. This project established a standardized floor graphics system used across NYU Langone Health facilities, ensuring consistent measurements, clear visual hierarchy, and accurate implementation for a range of rehabilitation testing protocols

SYSTEM FRAMEWORK:

  • The standardized system includes multiple graphic types designed to support clinical mobility testing protocols, each with defined dimensions, colors, and typographic standards.

Clinical Testing Graphics:

  • Floor graphics were designed to align with specific rehabilitation testing protocols, ensuring accurate spacing, measurement intervals, and consistent visual cues for clinicians and patients.

Measurement Graphics:

  • Distance markers and measurement graphics were developed to support standardized clinical tests such as the 10-Meter Walk Test, 6-Minute Walk Test, and Functional Gait Assessment.

Spatial Testing Systems:

  • Specialized floor graphics support balance and mobility assessments such as the Star Excursion and Y-Balance tests, using precise angular layouts and measurement markings.

Installation Document:

  • Installation diagrams provide clear specifications for placement, spacing, and alignment to ensure consistent implementation across facilities.
